What Is a Crypto Wallet?
Everyone says get a crypto wallet. But almost no one explains what it actually is.
What this covers
So here it is, in plain English. First surprise. Your wallet does not actually hold any coins.
The coins live on the blockchain, a shared record out on the network. What your wallet holds is a pair of keys. A public key, like your account number, and a private key, like your password.
The public key is safe to share. It is how people send funds to you. Think of it like your email address.
The private key is everything. Whoever holds it controls the funds. Never share it.
Never type it into a random website. Two main types. A hot wallet lives on your phone, easy and connected.
A cold wallet stays offline on a device, safer for larger amounts. When you set one up, you get a recovery phrase. Twelve words.
Write them on paper, store them offline, and never take a photo of them. That is a crypto wallet, honestly explained. Hold your keys, guard your phrase, and you hold your money.
Keep learning, the smart way.
